SOUTH FLORIDA AUTHORS

     The best source for information about Florida authors is The Book Lover's Guide to Florida by Kevin M. McCarthy, editor.  Some South Florida authors include:


Charles H. Baker, Jr. (1895-1987).   Bibliography.   South Florida's gourmet extraordinaire.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas (1890-1998).   Bibliography.   Autographs.   Mystery.

David Fairchild (1876-1954).   Bibliography.

Thomas Harris (1940-  ).   Harris bought a home here in South Florida after publication of The Silence of the Lambs.

Kirk Munroe (1850-1930).    Bibliography.   Biography.   A 1910 travel guide says "The famous author, Mr. Kirk Munroe, whose name is known to every American boy ...". One of his books is subtitled "A Story of Boys, Boats, and Bicycles, Fire-Buckets and Fun".  What else is there ?

Robb White (1909-1990).   Bibliography.   Although a resident of Georgia, White is included here because many of his beloved children's books are set in Florida.

Philip Wylie (1902-1971).   Bibliography.   Wylie was born in Beverly, Massachusetts. He first visited Miami in 1929, wintered here in the 30's, and moved here permanently in 1937. A prolific writer, he is best known for the classic science-fiction novel When Worlds Collide and his Crunch and Des fishing stories.
